By now, every MAC fan knows about Bubbles lipstick. It's fabulous because it's a sheer white-ish shade that is absolutely amazing for layering with other products to customize your lip shade! But... what if you want to go the opposite route? Is there something that's sheer and dark for helping you customize?

Bubbles originally launched in the spring of 1997 with the collection Colour Abstraction II. Also in this collection was a lipstick called Jet.

Follow up:

A frost finish, Jet is described as a "sheer black". I'd be more apt to call it a "shimmery sheer gunmetal colour of love!".

It's definitely super nifty to play with. I believe Bubbles and Jet were permanent for a while, and my tube of Jet appears to have been made in 2002. You may be thinking, "Dear lord, that lipstick is seven years old? Ew!" It still smells fresh as can be (though a bit more like chocolate than vanilla, oddly enough) and the texture is perfect. Although it would be a bit unusual to wear alone, I have a strong enough natural lip colour and this lipstick is sheer enough that I could go for it (I'll do a lip swatch in the near future!). I generally prefer to layer it, though, to deepen other shades and throw in some shimmer (if I want something non-shimmery, I have my trusty black lipmix ).

This is a lot more interesting than a solid black lipstick. It's the kind of thing that I adore having on hand, as I'm a huge fan of customizing your makeup and playing with it. When I saw this lipstick in a sale online, I went nuts. And when it got here?! Woah boy! I'd known about this and lusted for it for quite some time, and am ecstatic to have it in my collection. If this gets repromoted at some point (which would be amazing!), you know I'll be all over it!
