Tarte Spring Greening Palette

Do you like how the bronzey shade is clearly upside down?

Meet my first venture into the realm of Tarte colour products: the Spring Greening palette. Housed in a reusable zippered straw box-like thing, it comes with a small bamboo brush, 3 little glosses (one is missing from these pics because I forgot it in my bag, oops!), and 6 shadows. Tarte's all up on the all-natural sort of thing, and I have to say I love the container - it's adorable! The top and bottom are hard, and the purple tray thingy that holds the makeup really does pop out quite easily (being me, I've already tried). The straw is fun (though, it dents easily, but dude: it's straw!), and I enjoy the pattern of plain straw and purple triangles. I really appreciate the container being reusable, and can certainly see myself keeping it on hand after I finish these, filling it with bits and bobs.

The brush is adorable and soft, but largely useless; I found it is considerably better at removing these shadows than applying them. I've yet to try it with other shadows, mind you. Super soft brush plus very soft shadows does not make for a good lay-down of colour, yo. I though, maybe if it won't apply them, it will blend them? But alas, no. So... it pretty much just sits there. I'll have to see if I can find a use for it. Any suggestions?

Follow up:

The shadows are all smooth with shimmer, with the coral, blue and green all having obvious gold shimmer. These are, as mentioned, of an extremely soft texture and can be blended out to be very sheer. I do find I can build them up fairly easily, though, for a good amount of colour. In general, I find the shades to be pretty and enjoyable. When using them, I have to be careful not to blend them a lot, as the texture doesn't really give them a lot of sticking power. I need to try these with a super sticky base to see if that improves them, but with anything average expect to go back in with a small brush to redeposit bits of colour if you want more vibrant hues.

The glosses have shimmer as you can see from the swatches, and are extremely sheer: do not expect any payoff from these babies! These are cute little tubes, each containing a wee .2 oz (to my recollection). Excellent for tucking in a snug spot on the run! The texture of these is thin and nonsticky, with mediocre staying power. They'll last for a reasonable amount of time on the lips, but don't expect anything spectacular. I do like them for a low-maintenance bit of shine, mind you, and will likely keep the tubes (which have doe-foot applicators) on hand for mixing custom colours as I run through them. Below I've included a lip swatch of the pink gloss, which shows it really has no colour on the lips:

All in all, it's a cute little palette, but it really doesn't sell me on the "all natural" way by any means. If preservatives mean a bit more staying power, I'll happily take 'em. I'll mix these shadows in with others I have and use them, but I won't cry when they run out, either. In short? Pretty, but mediocre.
