Let's Get This Pigment Swatchin' Extravanganza on the Go!

G'day all! It's been a sickly week here at Cosmetosaur headquarters. Boyfriend has been running a fever and is generally out of commission, and I'm sleeping like you wouldn't believe trying to fight off whatever he's got (I've put in a solid 20 hours in bed in the last day). Yeesh! Hopefully things clear up shortly. In the mean time, I figured I should finally start swatching my pigment collection for you all, and thought I'd start with what I personally think of as the worst set of pigments MAC has ever made! :D

Yes, I'm serious. These are the neon pigments MAC added to their PRO collection in 2008 or so, and they're pretty dreadful. Most are considered neither eye nor lip safe, and they're all quite chalky. These don't build up well, suck to blend and fade like whoa unless you use an ultra-sticky base. Gah! Actually, they rather remind me of using cheap water-activated water colour paint palettes intended for children.

Follow up:

Ordinarily, I prefer to swatch pigments both dry and wet, since it tends to make quite a difference, and only adds to their versatility. Here, I've only done it for one, and it was a pain in the arse. The right swatch of Red Electric was done wet, the one on the left dry. Not much difference, huh? If you were to try to use these wet, I'd recommend using less fluid than you'd normally add to a pigment, because it makes these runny and pretty much useless. Neo Orange and Magenta Madness are swatched dry, as are Green Space, Full Force Violet and Rock-It Yellow in the picture below.

I'll admit I only have samples of these shades (with the exception of Magenta Madness) because I simply don't have much use for them. The warmer shades are pretty as blush, but I need a cream under them to make them stick. Have you tried MAC's neon pigments? Did you have any better luck than I have with them?

I haven't tried these, and now I doubt I ever will! They really do look like they suck.

Karin, sounds like a sound decision. ;)

Oh WTF mac? Not eye OR lip safe? Who the hell is going to do bodypainting with a tiny jar of pigment?

Melissa, it really is stupid. I don't know why MAC bothered keeping these, because they FAIL.
