Sculpted Cheeks Make Me Sing Like A California Raisin![]() I have a confession to make: I tend to be a bit of a snob when it comes to makeup. I'm not saying I won't use less expensive products, but I tend to be sceptical towards them - particularly powder products. I hear a lot of good things about NYX products, but my personal experience has been pretty hit or miss. This is my first time giving a NYX blush a whirl, and I've got to say: I'm pretty pleased! Follow up: NYX Raisin blush is smooth, soft and pigmented. Good start, right? As you can see, the colour is one that if I piled it on the apples of my cheeks, I'd probably look like I hadn't washed my face since I rolled in the dirt. However, this purpley-brown blush is absolutely delightful on my pasty skin as a contour: it blends easily and, happily, lasts all day! ![]() Being soft means I don't have to dig at the colour to get some on my application tool of choice, something I loathe doing. Swipe and go, yo! The blendability means that I can easily concentrate the colour where I want it and sheer it out toward the edges so that I don't have unnatural stripes on my face - something I find you have to be particularly careful of with contouring. All in all, I'm quite pleased with Raisin. It's found a comfortable place amongst the products I rotate regularly, and I'm definitely not afraid of running out since a little goes a long way, it's super inexpensive, and it's not limited edition! What's not to love!? Have you tried NYX blushes, or products in general? What do you think? What's your favourite product/colour to contour with? 2 comments! :D
While we're on the subject, I have been trying to learn how to contour AND use blush simultaneously, and I need some guidance. When I contour, I usually end up wiping it off again because to me, I look fakebaked. I have the blush thing down, but combining the looks is beyond my talents. Any advice?
Also, I checked out Nyx cosmetics display at Ulta last week and, like you, I was skeptical. Now I know that when I go back, it will be worth it to try. Thanks for that!

Emily, I'm glad I could help! With contouring, I find it really easy to go overboard. I have to start small and build carefully, blending fiendishly as I go. I put my contour colour just under my cheekbone, the blush colour on the apple of my cheek and blend together.
It's definitely something that takes practise, lest your cheeks look like mud. If you find you're looking fakebaked, try a different shade? Contour doesn't have to be brown. You could try taking a heavily pigmented blush in a colour you like, and apply it first along the underneath of your cheekbone. Blend it up and onto the apple, so it gets lighter as you go, and the colour is heaviest where you'd want to contour. Er, uh, make any sense? Maybe I should just make a video...
