From Our Lips: Cosmetosaur Gets Down & Dirty Viva Glam Style

Dude, with two new Viva Glam lipsticks hitting the stores, I couldn't not check them out! Plus, they're lustres, which just so happen to be one of my favourite MAC lipstick formula. If you don't know about MAC's Viva Glam campaign, you need to listen up: through the sale of Viva Glam products, they've raised over $150 million for people living with HIV/AIDS. Some companies may have a product that they give a percentage of the sale price to charity, or maybe even all the profit - but MAC takes this the step further by giving every cent of the sales price. That's something that truly grabs this dino's heart.

This latest campaign has the names of Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga attached to it, each with a shade named after them. These shades will be available for the next year, and I definitely recommend stocking up.

Nice touch having their signatures on the boxes and tubes, right? Right. So, swatches--!

Make That Balm Do More!

13/01/10, Permalink 11:00:00 am, by Sanayhs, Categories: Reviews, Recommendations

There is but one place on my body that is naturally prone to severely dry skin: my lips. As a result of this, I'm always digging for lip balm (or super hydrating lipstick! :D). The latest balm adventure came to me from Santa Claus in my stocking. :) This is a Softlips stick with SPF 20, in the strawberry sorbet variety.

First of all, two thumbs up from me for having sunscreen, and a decent amount of it. Some of the things out there with, say, SPF6 make me shake my head. It's easy to forget that lips get sunburnt too!

My Brows' Best Buddy

Filling in my brows is something I do daily. Otherwise, as evidenced in a recent EOTD, they look rather messy and the colour is dull. Ahem. I've tried a number of techniques, and my personal favourite is filling with powder - quick, easy, reliable and gives a soft finish. As such, I need a brush to help me out, right?

My darling boyfriend picked me up some awesome goodies while in Florida and the Urban Decay Book of Shadows II was at the top of the list of must haves. Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands of makeup; they never disappointment me, and this was no different. I love this palette.

Star Makeup Haven Swatches

Well i've been living under a rock for the last few weeks, I guess depression can do that to you. Anyway i'm a little better and want to post about this new brand of makeup I ordered off the net. I love to support little companies and try new products. The site is Star Makeup Haven. They have cheap eyeshadow that is comparable to Mac and other brands. Same size pan and each shadow is only $4.95us. They let you build a customizable palette, which I did. The shipping was decent and I would order from them again. But after getting 15 shadows for around $50us i'm good for now.

10 Things to do with your Naked Honey Salve

09/10/09, Permalink 12:18:12 am, by Ally, Categories: Random, General, Recommendations

honey

I'm sure many of you bought a tin of this when the Naked Honey collection came out and now you're stuck with a tin of salve that will last forver if you only apply it your lips. Mine hasn't made much of a dent, so here are more ways to use up your salve.

1. Tame flyaways: Rub a little between the tips of your fingers and apply it to your unruly hair. Also rub a toothbrush in it and tame those baby hairs around your hairline or your eyebrows.

2. Condition cuticles: Rub some on and around your cuticles to keep them soft.

3. Sooth a sunburn: Rub a little on your sunburn to take the pain away.

4. Heal dry skin: Massage over your knees, elbows, heels or anywhere you have dry skin.

5. Soothes bug bites: Helps alleviate the pain of bug bites.

Smashbox Soft Lights

Next on my list of Smashbox goodies: their soft lights. These are a very smooth pressed highlighting powder that gives one that sought-after "glow". They aren't chunky, glittery, frosty or gross in any way. They are smooth to apply and wear, and I have to say: I love them. These have to be, in general, my favourite highlighting product. Yes, my favourite - even though I own most of MAC's mineralize skinfinishes to date. You know what? I think these are better.

Lip Combos

19/05/09, Permalink 11:39:37 pm, by Sanayhs, Categories: Swatches, Recommendations

Spring and summer time usually lends itself to warmer lip colours - funny how the sun does that to us! I thought today I'd share with you a couple combos that I enjoy, one being considerably brighter than the other. First up, I present Summerfruit cremestick lipliner as fill, topped by Marquis d' lipstick and Live and Dye lipstick:

Now, this could certainly be replicated with other products. Summerfruit is a permanent shade at MAC, and Marquis d' is simply a peachy nude. Live and Dye is a nonremarkable cool pink. Yum!

Bronzer Power!

05/13/09, Permalink 10:31:28 pm, by OfficerJenny, Categories: Reviews, Recommendations

Summer is great for getting that pale wintery skin nice and brown, but what about us who can't tan? Or those who just want a little extra glow? Well I'm about to show you guys my personal favorite bronzers to give you a flawless looking face. Here are my top three favorite bronzers:

My favorite ever: MAC's bronzing powder in Refined Golden. It comes in the standard MAC compact packaging, with a handy mirror included. The colour is a warm brown with golden glitter in it. Don't worry though, your skin will not be a glitter bomb! The glitter and colour mesh together to give you a really natural glow with a gorgeous sheen. It's quite pigmented, and easy to go overboard, so I would suggest using a brush like the 187, or an extremely light hand. It may look a little awkward on those with really pink skin, but luckily for you, Solar Riche bronzer will be amazing! And it's coming out with Style Warriors at the end of this month! These retail for $21 USD.

See the rest after the split!
